South San Francisco Police are cautioning residents to be careful when conducting online affairs after a meeting between a San Jose man and woman that was initiated through Craigslist led to the man getting his car and other personal items stolen Saturday.
The victim, 42, responded to an ad on Craigslist placed by the suspect, 31, asking for monetary assistance in repairing her car, according to police.
Over the course of e-mail exchanges, the two agreed to meet at a location in South San Francisco during which the woman gave the victim $80 to fix her car and followed by a romantic encounter at a motel in South San Francisco where they engaged in a brief sexual act. While the man was taking a shower, the suspect took his wallet, cell phone, pants and car.
The suspect us described as 120 pounds, 5 feet 1 inch tall, and a Filipino female with black hair and brown eyes. She is considered as a person of interest in a similar case two weeks ago in another city. When she was contacted by phone, she denied involvement in the theft and agreed to respond to police but failed to appear at the police station.
The victim’s car and property have not yet been recovered.
Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect or similar incidents to contact the police department at (650) 877-8900.
